Welcome to the Piping Rock Singers.
The Piping Rock Singers formed in 1995 out of a church choir in Houston. We perform both sacred and secular music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, 1100 to 1700 AD, both a cappella and with period instruments. We present several public concerts each year and are also available for weddings, parties, and other private functions.
Under the direction of newly appointed director and noted musician Dr. Isabelle Ganz, our spring concert, Love: Sacred and Profane, features voices and viols takes place on Friday evening, April 23, 2010, at 7:30 PM. The concert will also feature Mary Springfels, the famous early-music performer, leading the Z-Viols, Houston’s professional viol consort.
Selections from the 1610, the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin will be presented observing the 400th anniversary of Claudio Monteverdi’s signal work. The concert will also include madrigals, sacred and profane, of the Italian composers Palestrina, Gesualdo, Marenzio, and d’India. English composers featured in the program include John Dowland, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Tomkins, John Farmer, and John Bennett.
The concert takes place at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2353 Rice Boulevard, Houston 77005-2696, phone (713) 523-2864, located at the corner of Greenbriar @ Rice Boulevard in the Rice Village.
